I recently started doing small renovation and DIY stuff around my home walls, shelves, small flooring changes. I used to just grab materials as needed, but now I find that getting stuff wrong wastes time and money.
So I looked into doing a material takeoff for even minor tasks listing all boards, screws, paint, and extras ahead of time. It helps me avoid back-and-forth trips to the store and surprises.
Anyone else here doing this kind of estimating before starting their hobbies? How accurate is your list vs actual use? Any tricks you follow so you don’t under or overbuy stuff?
