How Do I Fix Yahoo Mail App Password Errors During Backup?
#1
I am trying to create a local backup of my Yahoo Mail account, but I am facing authentication issues when connecting through a third-party email application. My regular Yahoo password works in a browser, but the IMAP connection fails. I understand that Yahoo accounts with two-step verification may require an app password instead of the regular account password. Before trying again, I want to confirm the connection settings and identify the cause.
I would like to know whether an app password is mandatory when two-step verification is enabled and whether I should use my complete Yahoo email address as the login username. I also need to confirm the IMAP server address, port, and SSL requirements. Can an expired or incorrectly generated app password cause repeated authentication failures? How can I distinguish an authentication error from an IMAP connection timeout? Is it possible to test one mailbox before processing multiple accounts?
I found the SysInfo Yahoo Backup Tool, which supports Yahoo login through IMAP/POP3 and app-password authentication for accounts using two-step verification. It can back up Inbox, Sent, Drafts, custom folders, and other mailbox data into formats such as PST, MBOX, EML, MSG, and PDF.
I plan to start with a small mailbox. After authentication, I would like to preview the folder structure, select the required folders, and export a limited set of messages to verify the output before backing up the remaining data.
I do not want to disable two-step verification to complete the backup. Keeping this security feature enabled is important because my account contains personal and business correspondence. I would prefer a method that uses the correct app-password and IMAP settings while preserving my account's existing security protection. I also want to know whether Yahoo security settings can block third-party access even when the app password and server details are correct before retrying it.!
