Is anyone else overwhelmed trying to choose the right marketing agency web partner?
#1
Hello everyone! I have a quick question for those who have traveled down this road before. We’re in the process of refreshing our website and expanding our online presence. However, it feels like we are trying to find our way through a labyrinth to find a dependable marketing agency web as our online partner. Every pitch deck we receive looks the same. All companies guarantee the top rank on Google, significant traffic, and great design. But when you look past the fancy presentation slides, it’s tough to tell who actually delivers real results versus who is just really good at selling themselves.
What’s driving us crazy is that everyone uses the exact same buzzwords. They always speak about “data-centred moves,” “smooth user experience” and “multichannel development,” however, as soon as you ask for details on how their strategy can work in our particular business model, things become rather unclear. We aren't just looking for a group of designers to make things look pretty; we need a partner who understands conversion rate optimization, technical SEO, fast load times, and how to build a scalable foundation that won't break six months down the line.
Another big dilemma we're wrestling with is agency size. Should we join forces with a small agency where we will get a lot of attention from senior strategists or turn to a huge agency with an enormous in-house team that will treat us just as one more number? I’ve heard horror stories from friends who signed with big firms, only to be handed off to junior account managers fresh out of college the moment the contract was finalized. On the flip side, smaller teams can sometimes get overwhelmed if project scopes start to creep.
If anyone has hired an outside agency before, how did you determine which to choose? Did you go with a small agency or a big one? What were the things you noticed as either green or red flags during the initial calls? For instance, is asking for raw client references or live audit breakdowns a reasonable ask before signing?
I’d love to hear your stories, whether they are good or bad, before we make any long-term commitments. What questions saved you from a bad deal, and what turned out to be a waste of time? I’d love to hear your honest experiences, good or bad, before we sign any long-term contracts!
