How should ecommerce brands optimize product/category pages for both Google and AI se
#1
I’m currently evaluating how we should approach SEO for an ecommerce store with hundreds of product and category pages. Our existing strategy is focused mainly on traditional Google SEO, including keyword targeting, technical optimization, internal linking, structured data, and improving product descriptions. However, with AI search becoming another way people discover products and brands, I’m questioning whether this approach is still enough.

The main challenge is figuring out what should actually be included in an ecommerce SEO strategy today. Should product and category pages be optimized differently for AI-generated recommendations? How important are product attributes, comparison information, entity signals, expert content, reviews, and consistency of product information across third-party websites?

I’m also trying to understand what separates a comprehensive SEO strategy from simply improving rankings. If a business is considering SEO services for ecommerce, what should it realistically expect the scope to cover beyond keyword research, on-page optimization, technical fixes, and link building?

For those managing established ecommerce websites, which areas would you prioritize first? Would you focus on improving existing product and category pages, building supporting content, strengthening brand and entity signals, or creating content that helps AI systems understand products accurately?

I’d also like to understand how teams are measuring whether these efforts are working. Are you tracking organic revenue, product-level conversions, non-branded search visibility, AI mentions, citations, or something else? And how do you decide which pages deserve the most attention when resources are limited?

I’m particularly interested in practical experiences rather than a list of standard SEO recommendations. What changes have actually improved visibility or qualified traffic for your ecommerce pages, and which commonly recommended tactics turned out to have little impact?
