Anyone Else Struggling to Figure Out Ad Budget Split Between Social and Search?
#1
I've been going back and forth on this with a few other business owners lately, trying to figure out the right balance between different advertising channels for an online store. We've been testing Facebook advertising Ireland campaigns for a couple of months now, mainly to build broader awareness, but I'm still not entirely sure how much of our budget should be going there versus other channels that might capture people closer to actually buying.
At the same time, we've started looking into working with a Google ads agency Ireland businesses have recommended, since search feels like it should convert better given people are already looking for what we sell. But splitting budget between two channels feels a bit like guessing right now, and I'm not sure if there's a smarter way to figure out the right ratio before committing more spend.
On top of the advertising side, we're also dealing with a separate issue: our current store platform is starting to feel limited as our product catalog grows. A few people have suggested looking into Magento development Ireland options to handle things better long term, but I'm hesitant to take on a platform migration and a bigger advertising push at the same time.
One thing that's been on my mind is whether it even makes sense to scale up advertising before the platform issue is sorted. If our checkout process or site speed is already struggling under current traffic, it feels a bit backwards to pour more budget into driving even more visitors to a store that might not handle the load well. But at the same time, pausing ad spend entirely while we sort out the platform feels like it could stall momentum we've been building.
I'm also wondering if there's a smarter way to test channel performance without committing too much budget upfront. Right now it feels like we're just splitting spend fairly evenly between Facebook and Google without much data to justify that ratio one way or the other. Would love to hear if anyone has a framework or process they used early on to figure out where their budget was actually working hardest before scaling either channel further.
Would love to hear from anyone who's navigated something similar. Did you tackle advertising strategy and platform upgrades separately, or try to handle both at once? And for those running both Facebook and Google ads, how did you land on a budget split that actually made sense for your business?
