The number of hair bundles you need for braids depends on the hairstyle you want the length of your hair the size of the braids and how full the braids should look. If you plan box braids, knotless braids, boho braids or passion twists picking the amount of braiding hair will let you make a nice full braid style without buying too much or running out halfway.

Consider The Type Of Braids You Want

Different braid styles need amounts of braiding hair. For example small knotless braids usually want hair than large box braids because they make many small braids. If you want boho braids with curls all over you may need extra curly hair to get that soft textured look.
As a guide many people start with these amounts:
  • Large box braids: about 3–4 packs of braiding hair.
  • Medium box braids: about 4–6 packs.
  • Small box braids: about 6–8 packs or more.
  • Knotless braids: about 4–8 packs, depending on size and length.
  • Boho braids: about 5–8 packs, plus extra curly hair if needed.
These estimates assume packs of braiding hair not individual human hair bundles. Pack sizes and hair amounts differ by brand so check the hair count before buying.
If you want extra‑long braids buy one or two packs to avoid running out. The exact amount still depends on how braids you make and how thick you want the hair bundles for braids.

Choose The Hair Type

If you use human hair bundles of normal braiding hair packs the amount can be different because bundles vary in weight, length and density. Always check the bundle weight. Talk with your stylist before buying.

Ask Your Braider For Advice

A braider can guess how hair you need from your head size, natural hair density, parting pattern and braid size you like. This is useful when you want small braids or a full extra‑long braid style.
For medium‑sized braid styles begin with four to six standard packs. Smaller braids, longer lengths and fuller styles may need more. Planning ahead and buying a bit braiding hair can let you make the braid look you want without extra worry.
