I’m currently preparing for the Board Certification in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (BCTMB) exam, and I’m trying to get a better handle on how other people approached their preparation.
At first, I figured I would just work through the study material, review the topics I wasn’t as comfortable with, and then take a practice test near the end. The more I look into the exam, though, the more I think doing practice questions earlier could be useful. It seems like there’s a big difference between recognizing information when you read it and actually being able to choose the right answer when you’re working through a question.
That’s why I’ve started looking for practice tests that I can use throughout my preparation rather than waiting until the last minute.
I came across this Updated BCTMB Practice Questions: https://www.practicetestmaster.com/bctmb...-test.html
I haven’t decided yet whether I’m going to make it part of my regular study routine, so I wanted to ask here first. Has anyone actually used this practice test while preparing for the BCTMB? If you have, did you find it useful for identifying areas where you needed more review?
I’m also interested in how other people structured their study time. Did you take practice tests from the beginning, or did you wait until you had finished reviewing the main material? I could see arguments for both approaches. Taking questions early might expose weak areas, but I also don’t want to spend a lot of time worrying about scores before I’ve had a chance to review everything properly.
For anyone who has already taken the BCTMB, I’d especially like to hear what your preparation looked like in the final few weeks. Were practice questions a major part of your routine? Did you focus more on reviewing concepts, working through scenarios, or simply getting comfortable with the style of questions?
And here’s the part I’m probably most curious about:
What do you wish you had done differently when you were preparing?
Sometimes the most useful advice isn’t another list of study resources. It’s hearing from someone who has already gone through the process and can say, “I spent way too much time on this,” or “I wish I had started doing practice questions sooner.”
So if you’ve taken the BCTMB or you’re currently studying for it, feel free to share what worked, what didn’t, and which resources you would actually recommend to someone preparing now.
I’m hoping to put together a study routine that’s realistic and focused instead of trying to use every resource I can find. Any honest experiences would be really helpful.
