About to start studying for this and can't decide if it's actually going to mean something on my resume or if I'm better off skipping straight to something with more teeth. Landed somewhere in the middle after some digging; details below.
Here's where I'm at. I'm coming from a general IT support background, no security or ops experience yet, and Splunk Core Certified User keeps showing up as "the" entry point everyone recommends. But every time I look closer, I see the same caveat repeated: it's an entry-level cert, and entry-level certs have a reputation for being resume filler that recruiters skim past.
What's actually bugging me isn't whether Splunk itself is in demand; it clearly is. It's whether this specific cert, on its own, does anything. Does it get you an interview, or does it just get you past an ATS keyword filter and nothing more? And if I'm going to spend real hours on it, I'd rather know upfront whether it's a stepping stone with actual weight or just a box to check before the cert that matters.

So there's real substance behind it, not just a name on paper. But it's also upfront that the cert alone won't get you into senior security roles; it's positioned as the foundation you pair with a security or cloud cert to actually go anywhere, not a destination on its own.
So I guess my answer landed somewhere I didn't expect: it's not "just a resume line," but it's also not going to do much heavy lifting by itself either. More like a legitimate first rung than a decoration.
