Full Version: Why Is My Outlook PST Not Opening and How Can I Recover It?

I recently faced an issue with an old Outlook PST file that contains important emails, contacts, and several project-related attachments. Outlook is no longer opening the file properly, and I’m getting an error whenever I try to access the mailbox. The data is quite important, so deleting the PST and creating a new one isn't an option.
I first looked into Microsoft’s Inbox Repair Tool, ScanPST.exe, because it is already available with Outlook. It was able to scan the file, but unfortunately, it didn't completely resolve the problem. Some mailbox items were still inaccessible after the repair attempt. This made me wonder whether there is a better approach for recovering data from a severely damaged PST.
I’ve seen people recommend using specialized software when ScanPST cannot repair the file. One option I found during my research is the SysInfo PST Recovery Tool. According to its product information, it can recover emails, contacts, calendars, tasks, notes, journals, and other mailbox items from corrupt or inaccessible PST files. It also offers Standard, Advanced, and Deep recovery modes depending on the level of corruption.
Another thing I found useful is that the software can work with large PST files and supports encrypted PST data. My file is fairly large, so I’m particularly interested in knowing whether anyone has used it for an oversized PST rather than a small test file.
I also want to preserve the original mailbox organization during recovery. Rebuilding folders manually after extracting emails would be a major headache, especially when there are dozens of subfolders and attachments.
Has anyone here actually used the SysInfo tool for PST File Recovery after ScanPST failed? I’d like to know how well it handled the corrupted file and whether the recovered emails and folder structure were preserved properly.
Any genuine experience or alternative suggestions would be appreciated before I proceed with the recovery.
