If you're looking to learn AI security, there are several courses available. I looked at the course topics, hands-on work, and the type of learner each one is aimed at. These three are worth considering.
1. Modern Security – AI Security Certification
Modern Security's AI Security Certification is a good choice for people who want to learn both how AI applications work and how to secure them. It starts with AI and LLM basics, then covers embeddings, vector databases, RAG, LangChain, AI agents, and MCP.
The security part includes prompt injection, indirect prompt injection, sensitive information disclosure, AI supply chain security, model backdoors, model signing, AIBOM, threat modeling, and defensive controls. It also includes hands-on labs where you build and test AI applications. No previous AI or LLM experience is required.
2. SANS AI Security Training
SANS has several AI security courses, so the right one depends on what you want to learn. For example, SEC545 focuses on GenAI and LLM application security, including threat modeling, RAG and vector database security, prompt injection, agent security, and MLOps protection.
SANS also has courses focused on offensive AI, AI security automation, and AI/ML for cybersecurity. Most of these are aimed at security professionals who already have some experience.
3. IIT Kanpur – AI Security
IIT Kanpur's AI Security course is another option for people who want a broader security view. It covers adversarial machine learning, AI attack surfaces, LLM security, AI red teaming, model protection, data and training pipeline security, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and AI governance.
The program is delivered through live online training and includes hands-on labs and red-team exercises. It is a good option if you want structured training with a focus on both offensive and defensive AI security.
For someone starting with AI security, I'd look closely at the course structure and hands-on work before choosing. Modern Security is a good starting point if your main interest is AI application security and practical testing. SANS makes more sense if you want advanced professional training, while IIT Kanpur offers a structured program covering a wider AI security lifecycle.
