I'm having a frustrating issue with HEIC files and was hoping someone here could point me in the right direction. Recently, I transferred several photos from my iPhone to my Windows PC, but I discovered that many of the images won't open. Every time I try to view them, I either receive an unsupported file format message or the image viewer simply fails to load the file. The photos appear to have transferred correctly, and the file sizes look normal, so I'm not sure whether the problem is with the files themselves or with my computer.

From what I've learned so far, HEIC is the default image format used by newer iPhones because it provides high-quality images while taking up less storage space than JPEG files. While that sounds great for saving space on a mobile device, it seems to create compatibility issues when those images are moved to a Windows computer. Some applications can open HEIC files without any problems, while others require additional codecs or extensions before the images can be viewed.
I have already tried opening the files using the default Windows Photos application, but the results have been inconsistent. In some cases, I receive an error message, and in others, nothing happens at all. I also checked whether my operating system needed updates, but the issue still persists. Since I frequently transfer photos from my phone for work and personal use, I need a solution that is reliable and doesn't require me to troubleshoot every batch of images.
One option I keep seeing mentioned online is converting HEIC files into a more widely supported format such as JPEG, PNG, or TIFF. That approach makes sense because these formats can be opened on almost any computer, uploaded to websites, attached to emails, and shared without compatibility concerns. However, I am dealing with a large number of photos, so manually converting them one by one would take a significant amount of time.

While researching possible solutions, I came across SysTools Image Converter. Based on its features, it appears to support HEIC files and can convert them into several common image formats in bulk. What caught my attention is that it supports batch conversion, which could save a lot of time when handling hundreds or even thousands of photos. It also claims to preserve image quality during the conversion process, which is important because I don't want my photos to lose detail or clarity after conversion.

Before I proceed, I'd like to hear from people who have faced a similar problem. Is there a built-in Windows solution that works consistently for opening HEIC files, or is converting them the better long-term option? If conversion is the recommended route, has anyone used SysTools Image Converter or another tool for this purpose? I'm particularly interested in solutions that are easy to use, support batch processing, and maintain the original image quality.

Any suggestions, troubleshooting tips, or software recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping to find a dependable way to access my HEIC photos without running into compatibility issues every time I transfer images from my iPhone to my PC.
