My son is feeling pretty lonely lately and I want to find a group for him. He wants to meet other people who have similar challenges so he doesn't feel so alone. Are there any regular meetups or support groups that you guys recommend? I think it would be good for him to have a safe space to talk about his feelings and just have some fun. Are there any specialized groups for adults in the city?

Socializing is so important and it is often the hardest thing to find. I suggest looking into support groups for developmental disabilities that have a social component. My son joined one through Gateway and it has been the best thing for his social life. They meet up regularly and do all sorts of fun things but they also have time to just talk and support each other. It is a very relaxed atmosphere and nobody feels judged there. He has made a few really close friends that he even talks to outside of the group now. It really helped him realize that he is not the only one dealing with these issues which was a huge relief for his mental health. I think having that peer support is just as important as any clinical therapy. You should check out their calendar because they usually have different groups for different age ranges and interests. It has definitely made him a much happier and more outgoing person lately.
