Full Version: The Mistake Most Buyers Make with Glycol Chillers

One mistake we made while selecting a Glycol Chiller was ignoring piping layout during the planning stage. At the time, everything looked perfectly fine. The system passed factory testing, performance reports were within range, and the supplier assured us it would handle the load without any issues. But once the system was installed and started operating under actual plant conditions, performance gradually dropped.
That’s when we realized the gap between testing conditions and real-world environments.
In a working plant, piping is rarely straightforward. There are multiple bends, elevation changes, extended pipe lengths, and sometimes even inconsistent routing due to space constraints. All these factors directly impact flow rate, pressure drop, and overall system efficiency. Unfortunately, none of this was properly evaluated before installation.
When we later consulted Aquatech Plus, they explained that most factory testing assumes ideal layouts—straight piping, minimal resistance, and controlled conditions. In reality, even slightly incorrect pump sizing, when combined with complex piping, can reduce system efficiency by 8–10% or more over time.
What stood out was how clearly they broke down the issue. It wasn’t a manufacturing fault—it was a design oversight during the planning phase.
This is something many suppliers don’t openly discuss. They focus on capacity and specifications, but often skip detailed analysis of actual plant layouts.
If you're planning to invest in a glycol system, make sure your supplier evaluates your real piping design, including routing, elevation, and distance—not just theoretical calculations.
It may seem like a small detail early on, but it has a significant impact on long-term performance, energy consumption, and system reliability.
