I’m currently exploring ways to get started in cybersecurity and came across a Cybersecurity Fundamentals course by SterlingNext. Since I’m completely new to this field, I’m trying to find something that explains the basics in a simple and practical way.
From what I’ve seen, the course covers topics like common cyber threats, vulnerabilities, risk management, encryption, and incident response. It also mentions some hands-on labs and practical scenarios, which sounds useful because I don’t want to just learn theory without understanding how things work in real situations.
At the same time, I’m a bit confused about whether courses like this are actually enough to get started professionally. I know cybersecurity is a big field, and I’m not sure if doing a fundamentals course like this would really help in getting an entry-level job, or if I would still need to do more advanced certifications afterward.
I’m also wondering how this compares to other beginner options out there. There are so many courses online right now, and it’s hard to figure out which ones are actually worth the time and money. I don’t want to end up doing something that doesn’t add much value in the long run.
If anyone here has taken this course or something similar, I’d really like to hear your experience. Did it help you understand the basics better? Did it give you enough confidence to move forward in cybersecurity? Or would you recommend starting with something else instead?
Also, for those already working in cybersecurity, what would you suggest as the best path for someone starting from scratch? Should I focus more on certifications, hands-on practice, or a mix of both?
