Full Version: Here’s how a Kenyan entrepreneur launched without a developer

Last month I came across a story that stayed with me.
A young entrepreneur from Kenya wanted to start an online classifieds-style platform in his city. Nothing huge. Just a simple place where people could list items, buy, sell, and keep the local economy buzzing.

His problem was familiar:
No developer.
No big budget.
No technical background.
Most people would stop there.
But he didn’t.

Instead of waiting for the “perfect team,” he explored ready-made tools, no-code options, and pre-built scripts.
He picked a tool that matched 80% of what he needed. He only customized the remaining 20%.
Within a few weeks, he launched his platform publicly.
Not perfect. Not fancy.
But it was live.

And something interesting happened — sellers actually started listing items. Buyers started browsing. The platform slowly grew because the idea finally had a home, instead of being trapped in his notebook.

This made me think:
How many ideas got stuck because founders assume that they need a developer, a big budget, or some special technical skill to build a marketplace?

Sometimes the fastest way forward is not the “custom” way.
It’s the “start now” way.
Curious to know — has anyone here launched something without hiring a developer?
What tools or shortcuts did you use?
