Hey folks,
The article on IVERCares got me thinking about something lesser discussed: if antibiotics are used unnecessarily for an allergy (rather than a bacterial complication), could that backfire?
My concerns:
  • If you don’t actually have a bacterial infection, antibiotics won’t touch the allergy trigger. So you might end up masking symptoms temporarily but not solving the problem.
  • Overuse of antibiotics can disturb gut flora, create resistance, or increase the risk of future problems.
  • Allergies still need antihistamines, nasal sprays, and trigger avoidance — so an antibiotic alone won’t do the job.
I’d like to hear from anyone who:
    a) Took antibiotics, thinking it would fix allergies, and found it didn’t work or caused additional issues.
    b) Opted not to take antibiotics and managed allergy differently — how did that work for you?
Let’s get real about foreign vs appropriate use of antibiotics in allergy cases.
