Hey everyone,
I’ve come here with a new business idea that could actually work really well in Canada — something simple but powerful-a local marketplace model with a twist. You know how so many people use Kijiji for buying and selling locally? From furniture to cars, even small services — it’s part of daily life here.
So I thought — what if someone built a modern version of Kijiji, but focused more on local trust, verified users, and small business visibility? There’s already a strong culture of local trade and community exchange in Canada, and honestly, that’s the perfect base to grow something fresh.
My idea is a localized classified marketplace (start with one province or city first) where:
· Sellers can list free, but verified sellers get a “trusted” badge.
· Local small businesses can promote products or services through affordable paid spots.
· There’s a built-in chat + meet-up scheduler to make local deals safer and faster.
· The whole thing can run almost passively once traffic grows.
Monetization is pretty flexible too with so many tools available like Best Classified Script— paid featured ads, local business promotions, maybe even premium membership for regular sellers.
I think this could be a great side business that scales with time — and considering how Canadians prefer local, verified transactions, it just feels like the timing’s right.
What do you guys think
-Is this a unique business idea that could work big in Canada?
-would Canadians try a Kijiji-like site if it felt more community-driven and transparent?
Would love to hear honest feedback before I go further with this concept.
