Don't freak out if Thunderbird's "Import MBOX Files" option is grayed out!

Install the Thunderbird add-on:
  • The ImportExportTools NG add-on is required since Thunderbird does not support MBOX import by default.
  • Select ☰ Menu → Themes & Add-ons.
  • Install ImportExportTools NG after searching for it.
  • Try importing again after restarting Thunderbird.

Install the ImportExportTools NG add-on and keep Thunderbird updated to prevent future MBOX import issues. Because, let's face it, Thunderbird like making things more difficult than they need to be. Make use of a third-party program such as the BLR MBOX Converter Software. This utility makes it easy to import MBOX files into a Thunderbird account.

To import MBOX files into Thunderbird, follow these steps:
  • Load your MBOX file into the BLR MBOX File Converter Tool.
  • Decide to make it to Thunderbird.
  • Click Convert and Watch the Magic Take Place
