I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and I’m curious if others feel the same way.
We live in a time where we have everything at our fingertips—Google Maps, review platforms, social media recommendations, blogs, influencer content… yet somehow, finding a genuinely good place in your city still feels harder than it should be.
Let’s say you’re trying to find something simple—a good café, a reliable salon, or even a place for dinner.
What usually happens?
You search → you get hundreds of results → you open a few → reviews are mixed → some look fake → some are outdated → others feel like ads → and after 20–30 minutes, you’re still unsure.
At that point, you either:
And honestly, that feels like a problem.
It’s not that we don’t have enough options. If anything, we have too many.
The real issue seems to be lack of clarity and trust.
Recently, I came across a platform called Citified, and it got me thinking about this differently.
Instead of trying to show everything, it seems to focus more on:
What stood out to me is that it’s not trying to overwhelm you with choices—it’s trying to simplify them.
And that feels like a shift.
Because maybe the problem isn’t that platforms like Google Maps or Yelp are bad—they’re just built for scale, not necessarily for clarity.
When you’re shown everything, it becomes your job to filter it.
And that’s where the frustration starts.
Platforms like Citified seem to be experimenting with the opposite idea:

I’ve only explored it a bit, but it does feel less chaotic compared to traditional search results.
Instead of jumping between 10 tabs and second-guessing every review, you get a more focused set of options.
That said, I’m still trying to figure out if this kind of approach actually works long-term.

Maybe the future of local discovery isn’t about bigger platforms…
