Tanning Bed Lamp Starters Causing Flickering – Need Advice
#1
Hi everyone,

I’m currently experiencing persistent startup issues with my unit and I’m hoping to get some expert input. Over the past few weeks, several lamps have started flickering repeatedly before turning on. In some cases, they take much longer than normal to ignite, and occasionally a lamp does not turn on at all. After doing some initial troubleshooting, I suspect the Tanning Bed Lamp Starters may be the root cause.

Here are the specific symptoms I’m noticing:
  • Multiple lamps flicker several times before stabilizing
  • Delayed ignition during startup
  • Intermittent clicking sounds from inside the unit
  • One or two lamps failing to light completely
  • No visible damage to the lamps themselves

For context, the UV lamps are relatively new, so I don’t believe they are worn out. I have checked the wiring connections to ensure there are no loose terminals, and the ballast appears to be functioning normally without overheating or unusual noise. The power supply also seems stable.
From what I understand, Tanning Bed Lamp Starters are responsible for initiating the electrical surge needed to ignite fluorescent UV lamps. If the starter is weak or failing, it may struggle to properly trigger the lamp, which could explain the flickering and delayed startup I’m seeing.

Before I proceed with replacements, I’d like clarification on a few points:

  1. Are these common and reliable signs of failing starters?
  2. Is it recommended to replace all starters at once for consistency?
  3. Could a partially failing starter damage the ballast or lamp over time?
  4. Are there specific compatibility factors I should double-check before ordering replacements?
I’m considering sourcing new Tanning Bed Lamp Starters from Sunal Parts, as I’ve heard they offer compatible and durable options. However, I’d appreciate any real-world advice or troubleshooting suggestions before making a purchase.

Thanks in advance for your insights and recommendations.
