How to Choose the Right Blockchain for Game Development?
#1
Hi everyone,

I’m diving into blockchain game development and currently evaluating which blockchain platform would be the best fit for my project.

The core idea is to build a multiplayer game with player-owned assets (NFTs), a play-to-earn economy, and possibly some gameplay logic on-chain (e.g., combat outcomes, marketplace trading, etc.).

There are a lot of options out there — Ethereum (via Layer 2 solutions like Arbitrum or Optimism), Solana, Polygon, Avalanche, BNB Chain, Immutable X, Ronin, and others. I’m also starting to see some new gaming-focused chains like Sui and Aptos pop up.

Here are the key factors I’m considering, and I’d love to hear from developers who’ve worked with any of these platforms:
  1. Transaction Fees – How do different chains handle microtransactions, especially in high-volume games?
  2. Scalability – Which platforms can support thousands of daily active users without lag?
  3. Tooling & SDKs – Are there any SDKs, APIs, or engines (like Unity plugins) that make integration easier?
  4. User Experience – How do chains handle onboarding for non-crypto-native users (e.g., wallets, gasless transactions)?
  5. Security and Longevity – How do I ensure that my game's assets and smart contracts are secure and future-proof?

Has anyone here gone through this decision-making process? What chain did you go with and why? Any red flags or success stories?

Would love to hear your thoughts, or even examples of blockchain games that handled this well.

Thanks in advance!

Arbitrum is one of the best options.
