How often should I practice for the TOEFL Listening section?
#1
To build strong listening skills and achieve a high score on the TOEFL exam, it’s important to make regular listening practice a part of your study routine. I recommend that students take a TOEFL listening practice test at least 2–3 times per week. This consistent exposure to academic conversations, lectures, and different accents not only increases familiarity with the test format but also boosts overall confidence. Listening is one of the most dynamic sections of the TOEFL, and mastering it requires more than just passive listening.

As a TOEFL tutor, I guide students to actively engage with each practice test by focusing on note-taking, recognizing key transitions in speech, and identifying the main idea versus supporting details. After each TOEFL listening practice test, I sit down with my students to review their performance in depth. Together, we examine the questions they missed, look for recurring patterns in mistakes, and discuss strategies to avoid them in future attempts. This targeted review process helps reinforce effective listening techniques and ensures that students steadily improve week by week.

We also work on improving memory retention and comprehension speed, both essential for success in the actual test. By the time the exam approaches, students who have followed this consistent and strategic approach to TOEFL listening practice tests feel well-prepared, confident, and ready to tackle any audio passage they encounter.
