Does anyone else feel like most media agency websites all look identical nowadays?
#1
Is it just me, or do I notice that all media agencies’ websites use the same approach to web design lately? I spent a couple of hours the other day browsing through various websites of media agencies, thinking of getting some design ideas for our own website upgrade and couldn’t believe how similar all designs looked. It’s like everyone hired the exact same agency designer or downloaded the same high-end Webflow theme.
Every single page greets you with a dramatic, pitch-black dark mode background, floating interactive 3D shapes that spin when you scroll, and hyper-vague hero copy along the lines of "we disrupt the digital landscape" or "we engineer hyper-growth human experiences." Don't get me wrong—visually, they look incredible. They’re sleek, futuristic, and impressive on a high-res monitor. But after clicking through seven or eight of them, I realized a massive problem: I had absolutely no idea what half of these companies actually do.

Some of these agencies don't even list their core services on the homepage. You have to hunt through a hidden navigation menu just to figure out if they handle paid media, PR, web development, or basic social management! It feels like everyone is prioritizing aesthetic flexes over basic clarity.

I’m currently mapping out the wireframe for our own media agency website, and I’m seriously torn down the middle. To keep pace with our competitors, do we possess fear of not using the videos and modern visuals? Or maybe such visual appeal is what the modern media websites are expected to have?

On the other hand, my gut tells me that real decision-makers—like CMOs, marketing directors, and business owners who actually hold the purse strings—are busy. On the other hand, I have a feeling that real decision-makers such as Chief Marketing Officers, marketing directors, and business-owners who are in charge of the budget are busy people. They don’t wish to take time figuring out what abstract design means. They want to know whether and how you can help them with lead generation, what your projects are, and whether you have experience in their industry. Nevertheless, I want to go against the current and design a very simple and straightforward website with good pricing policy and clients’ reviews to make it as easy to read as possible.
