Quotes have served as sources of inspiration, motivation, and sometimes guidance in people's lives throughout the known history of man. Some people see profound wisdom in the way a quote is crafted. It speaks to some universal truth, some deep insight about life. A simple quote can act as a reminder, a spur to action, or a shift in perspective from which we would have otherwise viewed our world. Many of the greatest minds in history: philosophers, writers, leaders, and thinkers, have bequeathed statements that inspire people to this day. Human existence could be described in a few words: from the perspective that encourages us to move on with life in the face of all odds to the unrelenting criticisms of human nature. Some quotes bring to bear timeless wisdom, some give us hope and comfort, or others constitute stern yet compassionate words of encouragement.
Opposed to this are the critics, who contend that several quotes are just well-fashioned clichés that sound profound but lack a meaning. Some believe that many times, people's attachment to quotes comes from the fact that they are incapable of grasping its deeper meaning or take it out of context so much so that it sounds merely like an inspirational sound bite. It does make one wonder, in this society where social networking sites are exploding with countless posts on quotes, whether there is really some wisdom behind these sayings or are they just beautiful words arranged together only to stir up some emotions?
Personally speaking, I think collections such as the one from HutZon manage to select phrases that resonate very strongly with real human experiences. Some quotes feel like they were actually written for us, saying what we were feeling or experiencing, at least at that time, but could not put into expression. Others shine through as guides, reminding us about eternal truths. Not all quotes can be heavy-hearted, yet the right ones said at the right time have their own strength. What do you think? Is there any wisdom behind these words, or are they just some pretty phrases?
