Do bananas carry seeds?
#1
Wild benefits of bananas sexually varieties, such as the Musa acuminata and Musa balbisiana, contain many small, hard seeds inside their fruit. These seeds are much larger and more noticeable compared to the seeds in cultivated bananas.  Most of the bananas you find in grocery stores, like the common Cavendish variety, are cultivated and have been selectively bred to be seedless. These bananas are propagated through cloning rather than seeds. The seeds in these bananas are present as tiny, undeveloped remnants and are not noticeable or functional.  Yes, bananas do have seeds, but they're quite different from the seeds you might expect from other fruits.  The seedless trait of cultivated bananas is due to their reproductive biology. They are parthenocarpic, meaning they can produce fruit without fertilization. As a result, the bananas don't develop fully functional seeds.  So, while bananas do carry seeds, the ones commonly eaten are effectively seedless.  The most common type is found in supermarkets. They are sweet and have a creamy texture.  Larger and starchier than regular bananas, plantains are often cooked before eating. They can be green or ripe and are used in many savory dishes. Ripe bananas can be stored in the refrigerator to extend their shelf life. The skin might turn brown, but the fruit inside remains good.  Bananas are one of the most widely consumed fruits globally.  Store unripe bananas at room temperature until they ripen.
